Why I'm running for the Oak Hill Board of Commissoners

Oak Hill has been my home for over 50 years. I want to help ensure that Oak Hill remains the oasis of green that all of us enjoy. The number one issue is protecting our zoning. Our zoning is the firewall that keeps Oak Hill from looking like some other parts of Nashville. There are many assaults on our green space. I want to protect Oak Hill from spec builders whose sole interest is maximizing the square footage of house at the expense of the lot, trees, and the neighbors. I want to keep Oak Hill Residential. I am 100% against Commercial Development.

 Oak Hill is facing some serious financial challenges in the coming years. Due to state legislation we are losing the Hall Income tax. This represented 29% of our revenue for the most recent fiscal year. In addition to that, our allocated portion of the state and local sales tax, that represents 26% of our revenue, will be declining significantly due to the effects of COVID-19. We need to protect our reserves while maintaining our infrastructure. I'm a CPA and want to lend a hand.

• I have over 40 years’ experience in public accounting. My experience includes auditing closely held businesses, nonprofits and a small city government. 
• Served on an Oak Hill Citizens Advisory Committee
• I have served on numerous nonprofit boards and committees for extended periods of time. In that capacity I have participated in over 1,000 board and committee meetings of nonprofit organizations over a 43 year period, including:
• St. Paul Christian Academy 25 years, primarily as treasurer but also as Board Chair
• St. Paul Southern Methodist Church (Now Green Hills Community Church) Board of   Stewards 6 years, including serving as board chair.
• Franklin Road Academy, board member and treasurer 7 years, finance committee 9 years
• Founding board member of Tennessee Christian Chamber of Commerce, 10 years (treasurer 8 years and board chair 2 years) 
• Murfreesboro Villager Homeowners’ Association, treasurer 32 years
• Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce Education Committee 3 years
• Metro Nashville Charter School Application Advisory Committee 2014
• Named to the Nashville Business Journal's list of Power Leaders in Accounting in 2011, 2012 and 2013
• Named to the Nashville Post's list of Accounting's Finest in 2012

I have been married for 40 years to Jerri Mann DeMarco and our two adult daughters were born and raised in Oak Hill. We have one granddaughter, three granddogs, and one grandcat. 

I worked my way through college, and paid for 80% of my undergraduate tuition and 100% of my graduate school tuition, fees and room and board.

While in college I played in the Vanderbilt marching, concert, jazz and pep bands.

I am one of two candidates running for re-election as an Oak Hill Commissioner and we are not opposed.
